Tinkerbell Legacy - Living with a flying parrot

Taiwan Bike ride May 2002 from WulingNongChang/Lishan down to Yilan

.

It was a pity I lost so many sets of photographs when that entity reached its hand into my hard drive and squeezed the life out of it. That was written in my
Fragments of earlier memories of Taiwan
http://shanlung.livejournal.com/111670.html

That included many of my mountain bike rides on my Giant Iguana and another good bike. It was so easy to take your bike up the train in Taiwan, go to beautiful area, detrained yourself and ride.

I have been doing some bike riding since my return to Singapore. I lived in Jurong West and sadly, this area is not well connected to the rest of Singapore with the Park Connectors or PCNs. The PCNs provided a safe way to ride your bicycle rather than on the roads of Singapore with homicidal drivers of cars and trucks and buses.

In the last couple of months, I joined Singapore bike forums and joined them on some of the bike ride outings.

Which prompted me to write this one chapter of my life when I was then in Taiwan. That hopefully some of the beauty of Taiwan can be conveyed to those bike riders, and at sometime in their life, they go and ride bikes in Taiwan too.

Taiwan has very beautiful and very high mountains. I liked riding for the pleasure. Bursting my lungs and driving my legs into cramps by very hard cycling did not enter my mind. I found it a lot easier to ride down mountains than to ride up the mountains.

So I cheated. I would take the bike up the bus going up the mountain, and then ride down. Elevation drop of 2000++ meters and a long long road.

Or I hired a car , drive the car up with the Giant Iguana, ride the bike down escorted by the car.
And for some strange reasons, I have this particular set of photos. Which allowed me to write this little episode

As happened on May 2002. We drove from Taipei and up almost to WulingNongChang. Elevation was about 2000M.
And I rode the bike down.

From WulingNongChang to Yilan bike ride

Despite starting higher up, it was not cold as the sun was shining. But in the mountains, weather changed faster than a woman changing her mind. Photos taken by my wife following in car

But when the clouds rolled in, the temperature dropped. I had to pull a thick shirt on.

Yes! I had a lot more hair that time and the hair was still black!

On those rides, half the time I was praying and half the time squeezing the brakes. I hardly looked at the speedometer as my eyes were largely on the road, or looking out at the beautiful mountains.

The road kept going down down down. Dont you love to be on this kind of road?
And feel the wind blowing pass your ears?

Every good thing must come to an end. That included this ride when we reached level ground. Time to packed up the bike on the car and head to Ilan city for Taiwanese hunshiao neurou mian.

LiBai mash making.
About 300 grams of beef mince, with 200 grams of chicken mince and 150 grams of dried anchovies(for the calcium). That was all done up to the kitty mash formula I wrote about in
Pakistan//Tinkerbell Kitty Mash//Dommie at the beach Ramadhan 2010 //Villa walkabout 2
http://shanlung.livejournal.com/119237.html
Instead of the almond and brazil nuts, about 100 grams of human grade groundnuts(peanuts) were used.
