So that Iceland E volcano hiccup again. But should that take people by surprise? After all, the last time it went off in 1811, that eruptions then lasted 2 years on and off. Come World Cup in South Africa, will that E volcano belch once more? Maybe the World Cup be played without any European teams.

Or maybe European teams and fans be all stuck in South Africa after the World Cup.

BP earlier reported that chances of things going wrong with DeepWater oil drilling are so remote that they need not bother with the expense of other fail safe means. So that they can save money perhaps as extra bonuses for their CEOs and shareholders.

Am I the only one who plan for the worse and hope for the best? at least in free flights fr Riamfada

I feel sorry for the wildlife and folks at the Gulf of Mexico.

Somehow, I think Greece trouble is the tip of the iceberg of the Euro mess. With the violence the Greeks are showing in their demonstrations, can they be helped? Do they want to continue spending more and demand money from other countries? That more tax be paid by Germans and French so that Greeks can continue on the way that they are accustomed to!

Money destined for Haiti and other places that need the aid desperately are now funneled to Greece so Greeks can continue to enjoy the lifestyle that they are used to.

With petrol bombs, murder of 3 bank people so far, burning of fire fighting trucks and buses to show protests on austerity measures.

One would think Greeks should be grateful for the help being given and tighten their belts. Didn't the Greeks themselves elect the government and forced them to pay and pay them that they now blamed?

And the Greeks seemed determined to drag the whole of Europe, and then the world down.

I fear it will get a lot worse before it get better.

Embarrasement at Al Falaj

Much as I enjoyed the mountains, they are still a long drive away.

On 22 April, the weekend after we went to the Green Mountains, the day was not that warm at 34 C. I also like to take the kitties out.

So that decided we would go to Al Falaj dam for the day where we could bring the kitties with us. Especially if we went to the top of the knoll where a breeze could be expected. If that day was cooler at say 26 C, we all would have gone to Buwah.

Katie was not around that morning. So only Dommie came with us for a picnic at Al Falaj.

I drove to that knoll and set out base camp as usual under the shade of the tree. We all did our thing, had picnic lunch, lazed and read and the hours passed on into the afternoon to the music playing from the car CD

The day turned warmer. So much so that about 4 pm, we decided we should head back.

We packed up, and got ready to go.

I turned the car key to hear a soft click. I tried again, and again. The engine would not turn. That was annoying as only the week before, the car rental company took the car for servicing.

I called the company up and complained righteously. I was lucky I had not gone to Buwah which had no tracks and no reference point to explain where we were. The manager said he knew where we were at Al Falaj . Since he enjoyed my reports, I presumed he knew from the earlier photos where the knoll met that dam. He told me he should be there in an hour time

It was lucky I decided to go back early and found the problem early. If I had left at 6ish when the sun was about to set, we would be in darkness.

We might as well wait in comfort and I set out the base camp again.

He came as promised, with a mechanic. It seemed the battery was flat. They took out jumper cables to connect the battery with their vehicle and my SUV started on turn of the key.

I entertained them with recalls of Riamfada and we went home.

On Friday, the next day, I was still uncertain of the SUV to go out further. I feared that the battery in my SUV was wonky and they did not replaced that. That day was also hot. I was lazy and chilling out at home was the best we could do.

But the car was ok, and started fine each time after that.

That was embarrassing. I must have flip on the headlights of the car accidently and drained the battery at Al Falaj. As I wanted to play the CD, the key was left to power the CD. Since it was day and the sun was so bright, you could hardly tell if the lights of the car was on or not.

I am glad my car rental company manager (same guy who told me of Umq http://shanlung.livejournal.com/108721.html ) was so helpful and jovial.

Lucky for me I was nice to them that day even when I was fuming inside at what I thought was their fault.

I had to go to my project site. I left Muscat early Monday for that 700 km drive down south where a huge port, drydocks/ship repair yard, airport and more are being built..

I returned back to Muscat on Wednesday. That trip took a lot of energy. So much so that I did not feel like going out for the weekend here.

Today is Thursday, start of weekend. It is so hot that we will be staying at home again. Taking Riam out for usual neighbourhood walks later in evening when its coolr.

But we plan to go to Jebel Akhdar on Friday tomorrow.

DEDICATION
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

For those that through no fault of their own, or otherwise, and had to part painfully and unwillingly from their beastie or birdies, whether in the past, or the present, or in the future, I dedicate the saga of Riamfada that I had wrote , and continue to write to that final handover , to you all.
