Tinkerbell Legacy - Living with a flying parrot

Last entry of Yingshiong
shanlung
Today, 24 Nov 2006 Friday, will be the last recording I make of Yingshiong my white rumped shama. Tomorrow will be
a day of packing prior my departure 9pm towards Brisbane, down under. It will be unlikely that I have the time or
inclination to write much then.

In the days since I got back from Taiwan about 2 weeks ago, YS have gotten closer and closer to me. There had been
none of the 'shyness' of a few days. But then, I had not been absent from him like the period of months when I was
in Saudi Arabia.

Even though I did not report on Yingshiong and his weight, I have been taking daily records of his weight, weight of food
periodically every day. I also prepared another batch of YingShiongMash, his daily staple semi dry food. The latest batch
was known as YSM2.

This morning 24 Nov record.

I was phasing in YSM2 as YSM was running out.

Then in the morning after weighing to see how much did he ate in the morning, those left uneaten in bowls were
thrown into the crickets/millis for them to feast on and returned indirectly to YS again.

In addition to YSM, the lid would be taken periodically off the cricket box for him to take about 2 crickets for
total of 8 crickets daily. From time to time, lid would be taken off milli box for him to forage.

Millis would be selected into treat box as treat for him.

After morning weighings, we go into training playing mode to exercise him via recalls. He gotten to
be more and more cheeky with me. When I walked away to new positions, often he would fly a circle around me before
returning to his perch as if to ask me to hurry up with the recall. At times, he would fly and hover over me prior
to returning to his perch to wait for recall.

This morning was the first time that he flew to me and perched on my shoulder unasked and unprompt. I was very gratified
by this voilational recall to my shoulder. At all times, he clearly had food in his bowls. He liked the YSM food enough
to eat that even though he knew I be givning crickets and millis. I totally phased out the suris. Suris are good and YS love
that very much. But as my wife was unhappy to harvest and feed YS with suris, the suris only ate and ate and multiplied and
multiplied. I could not take the chance that they became mass escapees even if information indicated suris needed garden environment
to survive in.

YS tend to follow me where ever I go. I am now in the PC room. YS flew in to join me after a few minutes. So from time to time, I
took time out to call him and reward him with millis. He was on my shoulder just a while ago to be treated with millis before hopping
to the back of my wife chair a couple of feet from me.

I tried to balance his time with that of Ivan my cat. Both love me, I think. Yet both could not be out at the same time.
One must always be incarcerated for the other to be out.

So YS would be out from about 9 am to 11 am and from 2 pm to 5 pm.

YS sing through out the day. No real fixed time. I was also in and out of the apartment to buy stuff or to
catch up with friends for lunches and dinners.
