Back to Yingshiong again

I touched down onto Singapore on late Sunday afternoon. I was greeted by my wife at Changi airport.
Eventually we reached our apartment and as we approached the door, we could hear Ivan screaming his head off. Ivan
was never 'psychic' towards me as he did to my wife. We were talking loud enough for him to hear us at any rate. Still
it was nice to be welcomed back by Ivan. He curled himself around my ankles doing his figure of eight twisting round and round
my ankles. None of that dramatic leaping to my shoulder the way he did after I got back from Taiwan after a 3 year absence.

Yingshiong was flying about in his flight area. He perched himself next to the mesh and stared at me intensely as if shocked that
I reappeared. I walked over to say hi to him to get him flying to the far end as if spooked by me. With my thoughts to unpacking, he
was left alone on which he flew to the perch by the mesh to silently watch the proceedings. Later in the evening, I went into the flight
area when he was sleeping to have a look at the suris. They were plentiful to the extent the surface of the peat moss was crawling
with them. I set the trap to harvest them in one of the two suri main box to load them into the suri holding box to feed YS the
next day.

On Monday, YS was wary of me when I joined him in the flight area. Since I came back, I obviously took over from my wife. Unlike her diligence in weighing YS, I did not do that. I knew YS had to be reaquainted back with me and I did not even bother to try to
get him to fly to the scale. I tried to get him to fly to me waving a suri to entice him. Needless to say, he did not do that. The
closest he got to me was onto the cage door perch provided I remained seated on the sofa chair. I extended my arm and cou;d just barely
got the suri on tweezer within reach of him. He accepted those peace offerings. Evertime I got up, he would fly away returning
to that perch only when I sat down.

With Ivan incarcerated in his room, the slding door was opened. YS flew into the living room to perch on the top of his old circular cage. He just stared at me. Anytime I got up to walk to him, he would fly away to land on the apartment door. The only saving grace
was that he continued to look at me. And only when I sat back on the sofa did he then flew back to top of cage to stare intensely at me. Even when I slowly got up holding a suri in sight moving very slowly to him, he would fly away.

But when I went into his flight area, he would fly back in to join me. He would perched on the cage door perch looking expectently at me for me to stretch out to feed him his suris one at a time. The harvest was huge and I stuffed him with as much as he wanted. But I had to remain seated on the sofa chair.

I accepted that as the price of being absent. Later in the afternoon did he restarted on his singing. Not the territorial tail wagging loud singing, but the soft singing.

Then on Tuesday, his attitude to me improved. After a couple of suris that I had to stretch out to him, I got up from that sofa chair. He remained on his cage door perch. I moved closer to him to feed him his suri without him flying away. I placed the suri still hold by the tweezer on the table and he flew over to get that.

I tried a recall. He flew over, hovered as if thinking it over, and flew back to his perch.

Then in the living room I tried recall again. He flew, hovered a foot away, changed his mind and flew back to top of the fan. He refused to let me get near him. But he allowed me to get nearer before flying off away from me. He accepted being given suris onwhen we were in the flight area. His YSM bowl and Sinlin bowl had enough stuff in them. I should have weighed them but I did not.

On Wednesday morning when I went into the flight room, he was looking at me in a more relaxed way. I cued him to the scale and he
flew there to tip it at 31.5 gm. He had a few millis for that and he flew back to the cage door perch. I then hold up a suri and
cued him to fly to me. Without hesitation, he flew and landed on my finger for that suri. I repeated that a few times. Then my wife
appeared with her camera. And of course, YS refused to fly to me with her standing and trying to shoot recalls with her new camera
bought a few days before I got back. So instead of 5-6 digi cameras that I last told you she had, she now has 6-7 digi cameras.

Later on in the living room, YS did the recalls as before. At call of his name Yingshiong! he would click his head to look at me. At come here! he would fly to me. But I had to show him I had suris. If I hold up the milli box, he would ignore me totally as if that was below his dignity.

On Thursday, YS was good. Regardless of millis or suris, he flew to me on recall cues. However, those recalls were short recalls. I tried intermediate recalls but he never even turn his head to me on his name. I did not bother to issue recall cues that I knew he would not do. Still, he was fed suris after suris after suris. I left him in the living room to check some emails in the PC room. He was calling outside. I was pleased when in a short while, YS flew into the PC room to complain at me. As I got up from my chair he flew out to the living room and called me. I was more than pleased to go to the living room to obliged him in recall exercises. He did so well, as if we were doing that all the time for the past three months.

But no intermediate recalls. He just refused to do that.

I still have a few more days. We shall see how he would be in that time.

(added in case others wondered what are suris)
