Tinkerbell Legacy - Living with a flying parrot

More voilational recalls // Taking his weight down
shanlung
.

So after all YS antics to make me get a move on, it was at 1030am the weighing started.

YSM was at 38.1 gm with drop of .4 gm. Ys was 33.7 // milli at 24.1
I got rid of the YSM at gave fresh stuff at 39.1

The play/recalls then went on. Absolutely good response from YS. Then he flew to my shoulder uncalled and was rewarded for that. After he flew to me 3-4 times, it was then the intermediate recalls. Actually more than that as I chose different places to call him from that he did with precision for his 2-3 millis each time. And it was the same for the far recalls.

If just based on his response, I would have been happy to allow him at this morning weight. But based on what is listed as shama's typical weight ofr 32-34 gm, I liked to get him down to morning weight of 31.5 for his long term health.

Joy then came in in midst of recall exercises and tried that again with YS. At sight of my good wife, YS indicated his displeasure by flying to the round cage on the floor. As she walked nearer with millis, he flew to the fan, and then back into the cage.

I got Joy to sit on the sofa and let him get out on his own. In a short while, he was on the cage door perch. Joy tried the recall to be heartlessly ignored by YS. I was standing in dining area and did a recall. YS immediately flew to me, hovered briefly near my finger, his head tilt to see I aint got millis in other hand, hovered and turn to the main door and immediately flew to perch on the main door. Joy gave up and handed me back the milli box. I then called YS over to give him 2-3 millis and decided we should do our own things. Milli was at 23.0

This morning I hang about the living room. Joy was in the shut off PC room with Ivan. Since I hang about, YS hang about with me too on the fan and Paddington bears on top of TV with occasional flights to main door and to my shoulders now and then on voilational recalls to get his 2-3 millis. I confessed that probably he mercenaryly flew to me for millis. But bear in mind he was a high weight and was not flying to me because he was starving. He might actually flew to me because he wanted to fly to me and comfortable in doing that. Perhaps the truth was somewhere in between all that.

Then he disappeared and I went to look for him. He was not in any of the usual places. I called and he reply from the cat room that was vacated by the cat. YS was such a curious explorer. That door was always kept locked with Ivan inside shedding hairs on clean laundry. YS noticed the door was opened and he had to go in to check it out. He refused a step up and hopped further from me. I stood back and did a recall cue and he flew to me. Oh well, I guess thats was his version of step up on my finger. As Deng Hsiao Peng said ' Black cats or white cats, as long as they catch mice, they are good cats'. And as long as YS got to my finger and taken out to the hall, any technique I got to do was good enough for me. I just think shamas are so flighty that they might find it easier to hover up and get to the finger rather than stepping up the way of parrots/macaws with their much heavier bodies.

I had to go out and YS had to go back in flight room at 1130am

At 2 pm, the YSM was at 38.6 or drop of .5 gm. YS was at 34.5

Did another session of play /recalls and some backrubs. Even at this still higher weight, he gave excellent response, almost as if he knew that I wanted to take down his weight and he decided to be very nice to me.

When I went to PC room, he joined us in a short while. He was largely contented to perch on the fan and preened and preened. Of course, Ivan was incarcerated in the Ivan room.

And for some strange perverse reasons of YS, he often perch on the back of a chair just next to Joy to preen. Yet when Joy made move to him in living room, YS made it a point to fly away and keep Joy at a distance. I did not try to understand that kind of mind. I only make my reports and let you figure it out.

530 pm YS was back in flight room. YSM at 385 // YS at 34.5 // milli at 21.7

I decided to remove the YSM and emptied that into smb.

At 7 pm, I went back in to weigh him again. I expected his weight should have dropped. My eyes popped to see YS at at 34.7 after he not getting any stuff from me. Then I saw water splashes around his bath tub that he taken a bath shortly before.

No YSM was left for his breakfast. We will see how it would be in the morning
