Tinkerbell Legacy - Living with a flying parrot

No more free feeding of millis to YS and taking YS weight down again
shanlung
.

As usual, YS was let into the apartment and I got and had my breakfast. After waiting, YS was impatient for things to start and started to signal to me that I should get on with it.

So at 1030am the weighing started. I was surprised to find the YSM to be 38.2 gm or just .2 less. Than YS was weighed to be 34.3 and I was no longer surprised. He obviously felt a less need for his breakfast. Milli was at 23.9 gm.

Then we got on with the morning play and exercises. YS was so prompt in his execution despite his much higher weight. I was pleased when he flew to my shoulder without my call as I dawdled. I delayed further and he flew to me uncalled again. Of course, he got his millis. He preempted me by flying alongside as I walked further away , hovering when I stopped waiting for me to do that formal recalls.

It ended with a friendly backrub on the fan. The milli was down to 23.4 gm

I would not be giving him free feeding of millis as that lead to such a heavier weight for YS and I felt not good for his long term health. That made me wondered about shamas kept in cages and without the chance to really stretceh their wings and with all the food that they can eat. What their weight would have been?

Obviously, those shamas in cages would never be weighed. Perhaps I might be the only one in the world who weighs his shama on regular basis.

You have seen in just 3 days of free unlimited free food what it did to YS weight, and YS had been flying about and burning up those calories too.

Those shamas in cages without exercises probably would have fat in their body and crowding their heart making them lethargic. Owners might be frigthened of their shama health and try to give them even more food compounding the problems. Yes, and trying to add vitamins and food additives and B complexes and then wondering why their shama died.

The millis after the exercises was at 23.4 gm. I got rid of the YSM into the smb and measured fresh YSM at 39.0 gm

Later , I was in the PC room. I heard YS flying about and calling in the kitchen before he eventually joined me in the PC room. Did a few recalls with him as a way to welcome him before ignoring him to continue on in the Internet. He then went into the bedroom for a while before rejoining me again in PC room. He was contented to sing softly alternatiing with preening himeself. When he got too bored, he would fly deliberately between my eyes and the PC screen and landing on the window grill next to me. That signaled to me he wanted recalls and my company that he then got.

At 1 pm, the YSM was at 38.6 gm. YS was at 35.0 gram and the milli at 22.3 gm. Then it was turn for Ivan to be out.

At 245, I checked on YS to be 34.7 gm with YSM to be at 38.5 gm and milli at 22.1 gm

We did our interactions now and then and by 630 pm, YS was at 34.8 and millis at 20.8. The YSM was at 38.3 that I left in for his morning breakfast.
