Tinkerbell Legacy - Living with a flying parrot

Stopping the harnessing and just enjoying YS company

So this morning YS had his backrubs before he was let into the living room, then he had even more before I got my breakfast. He waited for me to finish the breakfast. Then I procrastinate and just lie back on the sofa watching the news. His patience was truly stretched. He started to show his displeasure by flying from the fan towards me and circling over head and back to the cabinet. I pretended not to notice. He repeated that flying lower over my head, and then again even lower, brushing the top of my hair sticking up as usual. He wanted the routine to start. Those who are wicked would thought he wanted his millis. Maybe something of both.

So I went in for the weighing. He sat on the fan and watched as I took out the MM bowl, prepared the notebook and prepared the record.

Time was 945 am

The MM wa at 380. He flew in immediately and was at 31.5 gm which made me happy. The milli was at 24.5 gm.

We then went into the living room again to have back rubs. The recalls were superb. In the long recall, he came to me from top of the cabinet, a true long recall. His flight to me was fascinating, the way he porpoised and flew to me weaving up and down and up and down and bleeding speed at the end to land delicately on my finger. He repeated that by flying to the cabinet and recalling to me again from there. But after that, he cheated and decided the chair near me was more convenient place to fly to me from.

I went back and weighed the milli at 24.0 gm. YS followed me and weighed in as 31.9 gm.

I decided not to continue on with the harness. I still believed in that, but for reasons that I will tell you all later, you understand why I decide that the next week will be a time for me just to enjoy the company of YS.

While that harnessing was a setback, it was not that bad a setback. You have seen our relationship was back to what it was. That was due to a large part of the goodwill and rapport I build up with him. There was this big amount of goodwill in the bank that I could draw down from. It is like you can only drawdown money from the bank if you have got money in the bank. Goodwill cannot be on overdraft. That must be build up and must be there.

If I had repeatedly tried and tried in succesion, YS might be driven to the point that any further harnessing would be impossible, and that would lock the outside open space completely away. We stay in a fifth floor apartment. If it was a house with a garden, I would have taken him outside in the garden as enough visual cues would allow him to recognise and return to me. In your own garden, there will not be strangers to spook him.

And as you have seen, we do have a very solid bond. But to expect he to recognise a fifth floor apartment would be too much.

I decided to get out a couple of nice succulent crickets. I have this clear plastic disposable type of lunch box where I cut a slot in the lid so cricket can be corralled in that box. Too difficult to catch them otherwise. Another plastic covered the slot when the crickets were inside. In the box, two aluminum foil strips were silicone cement about an inch apart with the strip extending past the cover. With the crickets inside, the zapper then zap the alum foil, and the crickets were stunned and paralyised. Excellent if you like to avoid escapees.

So YS was given a .9 gm juicy cricket.

Later on he flew in and joined me in the PC room. I did my things and he sat there on the fan quietly singing. Periodically, I walked over to him to backrub him and give him millis. If I left him too long, he would go into the bedroom to sing before coming back to me.

I went to the living room and in a while, he would join me there.

At 12, he was at 32.4 and milli at 22.1 gm

I had a lunch appointment with CM and JC and a bunch of other old friends hosted by another friend LC in Shangrila hotel coffee house. The last time I meet LC was when he hosted lunch on the day that I first picked up Yingshiong. So I had some photos to show LC what happened since then.

When I eventually got back, YS had another .6 gm cricket.

at 415 pm, YS was at 32.0 and milli at 21.7

Whereever I went, YS would find me eventually . We trained and played.

So at 630 pm, YS was at 32.5 with milli down to 20.4 gm.

I ran out of the MM. So this evening, I decided it was time to shift entirely to YS mash and no longer the MM. YS mash was at 38.4 for his morning breakfast
