Tinkerbell Legacy - Living with a flying parrot

still at 1/4 hs recall
shanlung
.

After a lapse of 3 weeks, Ivan decided once again to be my alarm clock. I have to say I missed his cold cold nose being rubbed on mine, or his pointy claws digging into my nose to wake me up. I know I cussed him when he did that to wake me up. But I cussed those absence even more.

930 am

YS at 32.5 // milli at 26.1 //suri at 71.9

I decided against crickets as I wanted to take YS to morning weight of 31.0 gm. That meant his evening weight should be about 33.0

The usual morning exercises of the various recalls to backrubs and body squeezes then took place. Millis were at 25.1 after that. Interactions really required interactions. Just being with your bird, looking at your bird no matter how lovingly, will not bring you closer to your bird or your bird with you. You can look at your bird for years, feed your bird for years, clean his/her shit for years ,and that is not bonding.

He gotten used to body squeeze. He even continued to feed on millis when I did that to him for a few seconds. Then he would struggle to get out of my fingers. He either backed away or forced his way to the front. Then when he was out, he would do a victory dance on my hand , straining his head to the milli box expecting me to take that nearer to his head as his trophy.

Tried for half HS recalls again. But that still did not work today. He needed sight of even a small part of me, my hand, and my voice before he flew out of the PC room . This clearly meant that if we were outside and he did not see me, he would not fly back to me on sound of the voice alone.

He explored about quite readily. He even followed me very readily. When I went into the kitchen to fix myself a drink, he eventually would fly into the kitchen. He would not perch on me, but perched on top of hot water pot, or on cabinet top keeping an eye on me. Then I got out of kitchen, he would follow me in a short while. He did not fly over to me on recall, but stayed within eyesight when he felt like it. He equally would fly to other rooms instead of being around with me.

At 1115am, he was at 33.2

At 130pm, he was at 33.9 and millis at 23.5 gm. As we were going out, I actually brought the MM in thinking of giving him some of it. But after seeing his weight, I decided not to give MM. We then left for lunch and the gym.

Got back at 5 pm and YS was at 32.9 gm.

YS was in a very musical mood. When I let him out, he was singing and singing away almost all the time, from quiet to loud with a bit of territorial singing. He stopped singing only for recalls to me or to feed from me or my wife.

My wife decided to have a go at recall. Sadly, it did not seem to work for her. I felt strange in trying to talk her through having to spell out certain terms so YS would not fly to the cues I gave. But YS would take millis from her when presented. So I talked her through a hop here. Told her to bring the milli box to YS on the cage door perch. Then to slow back away but with a hand between YS and the milli box. The box was out of reached, and YS had to hop on to continue glutting himself.

At 630 when the last weighing was done. I was shocked to see YS at 33.9 gm. Must have been the feeding from Joy that bounced his weight up so much. I took great care that he only got 2-3 millis from me each time but my wife was giving him the HIMB treatment.

The milli was at 22.o with a drop of 4.1 gm and suris at 71.5 or drop of .4 gm
