Tinkerbell Legacy - Living with a flying parrot

Hide and seek recall
shanlung
.

845am (sometimes I do get up early)

MM at 38.1 gm and then topped up to 38.5 gm // YS at 32.7 gm
milli at 21.3 gm // Suri at 70.9 gm // crickets at 30.0 gm

YS was at the fan watching me as I sat on the sofa. I thought then I would change the exercises routine. I got up and walked to the kitchen door to start with a distant recall. He was intently looking at me and I thought that was great. I called his name with him still looking at me, He did not fly to me when his cue was given. I should have known from the way he looked at me like a statue. That was his look of disgust with him like a rock and not moving at all. That was different from the way he clicked his head to me when I called. That change in morning routine was vetoed by him in his unmistakable way. I forgot when I did that long recall in yesterday afternoon, that was in the afternoon. When at that time, anything goes. He would fly to me from any place to me at any place as long as I was in sight.

The hide and seek so far had not included a deliberate recall from sight unseen in one single flight. He played hide and seek with me flying to look for me around corners. I had to keep calling him to encourage him to fly on towards me in the PC room. But we have yet to do a solid pure hide and seek recall where he would fly towards me instantly around corners on recall cue from me. Perhaps that can be done should I take his weight further down. I do believe if his morning weight is at sub 28.5 gm, he will do that. The problem is more on my part. I am not certain if I am capable of doing that to him, or if I want to do that to him.

That also might strain the relationship of 'equality' that I want to maintain with him. That he truly has the choice, and not the choice imposed by hunger on him where I can force the choice on him.

For all I know, he might not have been comfortable enough with the entire apartment before. But it was getting clearer that he was getting more and more familiar and very comfortable at checking out more and more of the areas that were opened to him. Perhaps in a few days, I might yet get him to do a pure hide and seek recall without significant weight reduction.

I went back to the sofa. The short recalls were done, to military precision from him for his click and treats. I walked to the main door with him flying premptively ahead of me landing on the mesh. His first recall to me was from the mesh after which I tossed him to the fan for more proper intermediate recalls. Then I went to the kitchen door with him following me halfway to the light to do his recall. He refused to be thrown back to the fan landing on the back of chair near me to wait for recalls. Perhaps it was time that I named places for him to go to named places. But in meantime, I was focusing on recalls.

Then the usual break where I had coffee and ciggie. He readily accepted back rubs. I had to talk to him first that I like to give him backrubs. Not that he understood me I think, but it was the voice I used to talk to him or perhaps by talking to me, I mentally prepared myself to the point he accepted that.

That was also done with the body sequeeze. Unlike yesterday, he did not have strong objections to that today.

I then had another break. The break was long enough for YS to be bored waiting for me and he flew around the room testing out new perches. I was caught up in the news and in that time, he disappeared.

When I went to the PC room, I was pleasantly surprised to see him on that fan. I should have expected that would come about, that he would go to the PC room on his own even if I was not there. I greeted him with an offer from the milli box as friendship. Then he was recalled with immediate response. Considering he was at 32.7 morning weight, those recalls were motivated by willingess to come to me and not from hunger.

I did my things and in time, he flew out and was singing from the kitchen. Then he was in the bedroom singing from there. My wife later came in and excitedly told me YS was on top of the cupboard from where he flew down to circle the fan on the dressing table and back to the fan. My wife was then dressing up in front of the mirror and he deliberately flew in the small gap between her and the fan and around the fan. I smiled to hear that YS was getting well with Joy and cheeky with her in buzzing about her.

Periodically , he flew in to check me out in the PC room. He was checking out more perches that he never used before and now and then, I felt his downdraft as he flew above me to perch on the curtain railing just above where I sit using my PC. While he never landed on me yet for the heck of just landing on me, he seemed to like being around me. That he left me to go to kitchen or bedroom was something I not only accept, but was pleased with. That showed to me he had enough spirit and independant to make the apartment his home as well and not just hanging around me like a doggie. He is still a shama and a credit to his name of Yingshiong, a warrior hero in Chinese.

Later on, I went out to the living room. It took some time, which by then he probably went to other rooms as well, or he might have just remained in the PC room. But he came to be near me. Never quite on me, but again within sight of me.

At 12 pm, YS was at 33.2 gm//milli at 19.4 //cricket at 27.8 (empty)

Time for him to be in flight room so Ivan could have his turn out.

At 545pm, YS was at 33.8 gm. The milli was at 179 and empty that I refilled to 23.5 gm. The suris were all gone and empty at 69.8 gm

The MM was at 38.4 that I replaced back in his cage for his breakfast.
