At 945am, the MM was at 38.0 gm or drop of .3 gm this morning. YS was at 31.6 gm. The milli was at 22.5 gm and the suri at 71.2 gm. I decided not to give crickets today.

Then we did the short recalls with YS giving immediate response. As I walked to the door for the intermediate, YS flew alongside of me and shot ahead to land on the mesh covering the main door. He turned his head to look at me. I raised my hand and gave the recall. He did not come to me. He flew up from the mesh to top of the door, looked down at me and flew back to the fan. I gave another recall cue to have him flying past me to land on the mesh and taking off again back to the fan. It was like he was playing with me. Almost as if he was telling me he knew I was calling him but he chosed to play instead with me, flying almost as in recall but not quite as recall. While that could not be said to be good training, what he did touched me far beyond the normal recall.

I then walked to the kitchen door for far recalls. Ironically, he performed flawlessly, taking off from the fan and flying like a dolphin weaving up and down and landing on my hand for the milli. I then tossed him back to the fan and did that a couple more times. Except after he flew to me, he chose to go to the top of a nearby chair for recalls.

We then went to the fan perch to do head and back rubs. I did not try to get my finger under his wings. But this time, I exerted more pressure on his back causing him to bend his legs slightly.

He was then left there as I walked to the PC room and called him. I head him at the dining area and called again for him to fly into the PC room landing on the fan. All hide and seek recalls automatically got him suris as rewards.

My wife Joy finally figured out the MP3 player and how to use that for recording.

YS was on the fan and as I was twirling my finger under his beak and he was playing step up 'king of the mountain' on that finger. He was calling very softly.
Joy was holding the Creative Muvo Slim near him to record his very soft singing.

After she explained to me how to use that, I became very interested. I got him to step on my finger to walk him out to the living room. Thats where he normally did his loud territorial singing and soft singing as well.

I sat on the sofa watching the news while waiting for him to start. He started on his soft singing. So I turned off the TV sound to record him. But everytime I turned the TV sound off, he went silent. Then eventually he began to sing. Then evertime I walked over to him, he went silent. In the end, I had to record sitting on the sofa with him softly singing 15 feet away.

My wife's laptop was new and fully functional unlike my crippled PC with no sound. Those recordings were played back there. YS flew in to listen to those recordings. He remained silent to his songs. Then a snippet of his territorial song was played. The very soft songs were recorded close to him so that sounded louder unlike the soft and territorial singing that was recorded far away. But there was something in the territorial singing. When the territorial singing was played, he immediately responded vigorously to challenge that territorial singing recorded earlier. Of course, I happily record his territorial singing.

There were many nuances of singing that was not recorded, his experimental vocalization that I talked about. He chose not to go to his very rich mode.

Among all those singing, I had the shock of my life. Meows were heard and I immediately turned my head to the door aghast that Ivan had escaped from his room and stalking YS. Then I realised the meows were done by YS. That was the first time I heard that from him. He imitated so accurately the harmonics of the meow that it sounded exactly like Ivan. Then when I was ready to record that, YS did not meow. Then when I was not ready, he would do 3-4 meows in quick succession before going into his singing. It was not an imitation of Ivan. YS meow sounded EXACTLY like Ivan. It was so exact that it was frightening.

At 1230 pm, YS was at 32.3 and the milli at 20.6 and suris at 70.8

At 3 pm, YS was at 32.4 with millis at 19.7 and suris at 70.3'

We had to go out soon for Chinese New Year dinner at a frriend's place. Of course, my old friend CM and family were there too.

So 4 pm, YS was weighed at 32.7 gm and the millis still at 19.7 and suris at 70.0. I also measured in fresh MM at 38.8 before we left the house.

Goodbye folks.
shanlung
.

At 910am, the weighing was done. The MM was at 38.1 or .3 less. YS was at 31.4 gm and the milli was at 22.9 gm. No suris for today.

Fresh MM at 38.8 was given. I will be leaving tomorrow for a few days windsurfing at Kuantan, up the East coast of Malaysia with my friend CM again. So you understand that I am phasing back the MM into YS diet. My wife is squeamish about suris and crickets. But the millis in a box can be handled by her. YS would tolerate her, but he was not going to fly to the scale to be weighed, or fly to her even for millis. Joy screamed when I suggested she tried to handle the suris, so that matter was dropped in the interest of harmony at home. YS would condescend to taking the millis if she hold the box up to his beak.

So the safest option was to teach her how to measure about 2-3 gms of MM into the bowl. Periodically, she could feed MM as special bribes to him.

The training was short this morning. A few short recalls were done for me to have excuse to give millis to him. He gotten into this habit of premptively flying to the door when I go there to do intermediate recalls. At cue, he came to me. After he got his millis, I pointed him back to the fan for proper intermediate recalls. He waited nicely till I was in position for the long recalls to fly to me. Then it was headrubs and back rubs at the fan for him. I stopped tieing those ribbons around my fingers for a couple of days now. He had accepted the loop around his head and accepted the backrubs. Later on when I am back again, I will then reintroduce the ribbons. I will then play with him until he allows me to drap it around him and under his wings.

As I sat back on the sofa for my well deserved rest and coffee and ciggie, he had too much energy . He was flying from fan to door. He would then detour to me, circle around my head , and then back to the fan.

I then went to the PC room not bothering to call him. I was busy adding photos of YS into his song page. Then there were all the groups that I was going to tell of the recording of YS songs in English and at least 5 other different languages.

I did not call him as I knew he was going to look for me any way. So eventually, I heard him flying to the fan behind me. He was unhappy at being ignored and called chair chair chair loudly to remind me he was behind me. I then gave him his recall cues and millis. Then more backrubs were given before I went back to my PC to do my thing.

He flew about in the PC room and perched on the chair next to me. It was getting obvious to him that I was going to continue to ignore him. I then heard hos soft singing from my bedroom. That was fine by me. He could entertain himself while I did my things. Eventually, he was out again and back with me.

At 1 pm, I weighed him and was surprised that he was at 31.5 gm and no change in the MM bowl. The milli was at 21.9 gm. Then it struck me that he had not have MM regularly for some time and he did not even realised the MM bowl was back in the cage with MM. There were no changes in the weight of the MM bowl. At any rate, Ivan was screaming and it was time for him to be liberated. YS was shut in his flight room. Soon after, he rediscovered the MM bowl and he began to eat from there.

At 440pm, it was time to drag Ivan screaming back to his room and to liberate YS. But first, the weighing was done. The MM was at 38.2 gm amd YS at 32.5 gm.

He was following me around. If I was in the kitchen, he would join me in a short while. He now did his recalls in all areas that he had access to. Recalls could also be done in reversed direction. I could recall him from out of the kitchen to the dining area. I could recall him out of the PC room to the corridor. And from dining area to the fan perch just outside his flight room.

I had to constantly remind me that was the case only in the apartment, He would just spook if any strange person was around. The flight of any bird would send him into hyper fast evasive flight maneuvers. His tameness at home can really lure me into complacency.

I tried to record again, but he seemed to know, and took perverse pleasure into singing complex song only to stop when I finished my fiddling and got the Creative into record mode. He did not do any more impersonation of Ivan.

At 630, it was time again for YS to be back into his flight room. The millis were ate 19.6 gm and the MM at 380 gm with YS at 32.9 gm.

I topped the MM up to 38.5 for his eventual breakfast.

So folks, journal Yingshiong will be shut down for a few days. I will have a break from him and he also deserved a break from me.

I will be off at 615 am tomorrow. And I might be back by Saturday or Sunday.
