Tinkerbell Legacy - Living with a flying parrot

Pure recall to shoulder

This morning, when I went in to do the weighing, I was shocked to find the MM bowl missing. I then saw it on the table instead of in the cage. Last evening, I forgot to place it back into the cage.

After all I said about having to leave YS something to eat in the morning because I may wake up late, I did just that.

The MM was at 38.3 gm, .1 gm less than evening before.

YS was at 32.6 gm.

I weighed in 38.6 gm of MM. Then we went back into living room to do our exercises of recalls to hand and shoulder. That was going so well that I tried a pure recall to shoulder, no waving of milli to encourage him.

I called his name to catch his eye, and then I said ' come shoulder'. No need to have grammatically correct sentences. I gave visual cue by holding right hand straight and then bending it to touch my left shoulder with my left hand hanging down with the clicker. He came, hovered in front and then landed on shoulder to get his click and treat. A few more repeats were done to make sure of it.

I thought perhaps the hungrier YS was more attentive. Then when I went to the kitchen door to do long recall with clicker, he was not interested. Neither was he interested in milli like yesterday. He decided nothing less than suri would get him to budge. So scratch those earlier thoughts that a hungrier YS would be more amenable.

I then tried to get him into PC room with HIMB trick. YS was not buying that. He knew, and everytime I moved, he flew off. Only eventually did I get him with that. But I guessed he was not tricked, but decided to obliged me.

In the PC room, he took treats immediately on entry. Even taking from my wife as well. After a while, he flew back to living room and into flight room on his own.

At 130 pm, the MM was at 38.3 gm and YS at 33.9 gm

The afternoon response from YS was better than in the morning. What can I say.

He came back into PC room via that HIMB technique. He stayed around until I got him to step up and took him to corridor which he then accepted as a cue for him to fly into living room and back into cage.

At 6 pm, his weight was at 34.3 gm which indicated the treats that he got. The MM was at 38.1 gm, and the bowl was definately replaced back into his cage this time.

Note: Normal weight range of shama is 28 - 32 grams
