He is a Greater Green Leaf bird (Chloropsis sonnerati). This is a song bird local to Singapore and South East Asia normally kept in a tiny cage all through their captive life.
Since having had Yingshiong, I realised, and a lot of folks realised one cannot look at song birds as birds with pretty songs. They are equally as sentient as hookbills and deserving of respect and consideration due to fellow sentients.
So meet LiBai. LiBai is the name of a very famous Chinese Poet and Master Swordsman.
LiBai lived about 1300 years ago and said to be a Taoist.
It was said he died on a boat, when he drunkenly invited the moon and tried to embrace the reflection from the river surface to come drink with him and toppled over.
I like to think that original LiBai had no objections to my calling the Green Leaf Bird after him as he sings too, and I like to think of as a warrior as well.
LiBai still in his cage just prior to being released in Yingshiong former flight room.
GGLB are omnivorous, eating fruits and insects. Tinkerbell Kitty Mash already had been prepared for Ivan my cat, and for LiBai. In fact, since coming back to Singapore, KittyMash batch 2 was done about 3 days ago. About 300 grams of beef mince, with 200 grams of chicken mince and 150 grams of dried anchovies(for the calcium). That was all done up to the kitty mash formula I wrote about in

You see the crickets being released into their new home before incorporation into LiBai
LiBai is still shy and I refrained from further photos until he is used to his new surrounding
I decided on a local bird as I do not know how long this chapter will be. If I have to leave for long term assignment elsewhere, either my old friend Cyrus will take over or I will set him free in an obscure part of the forest of Singapore. I had been doing a lot of cycling about and located a nice area which might be his future home with lots of butterflies and insect life.
LiBai will find a girlfriend and take his chances with realities of life and the struggle of survival.
I converted the patio/balcony
into what I called ' flight training area'. That will
be about 3.4 meters long by 2 meters wide and 2.6
meters high (11' x 7' x 9'). The cage is kept there and I have
an armchair and table as well so I can read my books
and kind of 'live' with LiBai so he can get to know
me in the beginning.
A smaller flight area will be more comforting for the
bird at the beginning when I bring him through the
initial process of trust, bonding ,clicker
training leading to flight recalls.
If all that does not work, LiBai will then have a big aviary. But if that work out, the flight training area will be his effective aviary to be followed later by the entire apartment as well.
A few weeks ago, my wife unearthed some very old photos of that first trip I had taken to Lhasa that I wrote about in
Harry Potter // Rustaq // 1st overland into Lhasa
Those old photos were scanned and uploaded into Flickr folder
